국제신문은 부경대 사학과와 <2018 신년특집>으로 ’해양문화의 명장면’이라는 시리즈물을 공동기획, 1월 3일자 22면에 프롤로그를 소개했다. 신문 지면을 다 차지하는 10단 대형 기사다. 이 기획물은 매주 수요일 연재된다. 필진으로 부경대 사학과 교수 6명이 모두 참여하는 매우 이례적인 시도다.
한마디로 ‘해양인문학’ 하면 국내에서 부경대가 가장 첨병의 역할을 하고 있고, 그 중심에 사학과가 있기 때문이다. 이날 프롤로그 기사는 “부경대 사학과는 한국에서 ‘해양인문학’을 가장 먼저, 가장 적극적으로 개척한 학과다. 대학의 ‘개별 학과’ 차원에서 보아도, 국내에서 독보적이라 할 해양인문학 성과를 축적했다.”고 밝혔다. 이 기사는 “부경대는 2016년 교육부와 한국연구재단이 시행한 대학인문역량강화사업(CORE사업)에 선정됐다.”면서, “부경대 CORE사업단이 2016년부터 전력투구하는 해양인문학 특성화 사업에서 지난 10년간 한발 앞서 해양인문학을 개척한 사학과는 핵심적 ‘엔진’구실을 한다.”고 소개했다. 이 기획기사는 앞으로 어떤 것을 보여줄까? 이 기사는 “바다를 기반으로 출발해 해양에 지극히 관심이 높은 국립부경대와 해양도시 부산의 신문으로 꾸준히 해양문화 기획을 해온 국제신문이 ‘어떻게 하면 해양인문학을 시민과 독자에게 흥미롭게 전할까?’고민하다 나온 것이 ‘해양문화의 명장면’이다.”고 밝혔다. 이에 따라 “이 기획에는 해양인문학의 최전선에서 연구와 교육을 펼쳐온 부경대 사학과 교수 6명이 모두 필진으로 참여한다.”고 밝혔다. 이근우 교수, 신명호 교수, 조세현 교수, 박원용 교수, 김문기 교수, 박화진 교수 등이 그 주인공. 기사에 따르면, △한국고대사를 전공했고 대마도 연구, 해도와 지도 연구 등을 활발히 하는 이근우 교수는 해도·지도로 풀어본 해양사를, △조선시대사, 조선왕실문화·역사에 관해 많은 책을 내 잘 알려진 신명호 교수는 삼국시대부터 조선까지 해양인식을 비교하는 글을, △중국사상문화사와 동아시아 아나키즘을 깊이 섭렵한 조세현 교수는 해양시각에서 본 근대중국 형성에 대한 글을 선보일 예정이다. 이와 함께 △서양 근현대사 전공이며 ‘E. H. 카 평전’ ‘10월 혁명’ 등의 번역자 박원용 교수는 유럽의 근대적 국가 성립에서 국가권력과 해적과의 관계에 대한 글을, △환경사 해양사 기후 관련 역사를 연구하는 김문기 교수는 세계사를 꿰고 있는 청어 이야기를, △조선통신사 연구의 권위자 박화진 교수는 바다에서 일어난 한일교류 스캔 등을 소개하면서 흥미진진한 해양문화의 명장면들이 펼쳐질 예정이다. 이날 기사는 “전공이 다르고 관심 분야가 다를 쟁쟁하고 신중한 학자 6명이 해양인문학이라는 기치 아래 신속히 단일대오를 이뤄 대중적 글쓰기 필진으로 기꺼이 나서는 광경은 학계에서 흔치 않을 장면”이라면서, “실력과 내공이야 소문난 것이고, ‘팀워크’가 웬만큼 좋지 않고서야 한 학과 교수진 모두 ‘오케이 사인’을 동시에 낼 수 있을까.”하고 부경대 교수진의 분위기를 전했다. 건필을! <부경투데이> Department of History of PKNU attracts attention from the beginning of the new year as a leader in informing marine humanities.
