부경대학교 김영섭 총장 인터뷰 기사가 국민일보 17일자 21면(사람들 지면) 톱기사로 소개돼 눈길을 끌었다. 기사 제목은 “세계수산大 유치해 바다 생물자원 개척할 것”이었다.
이 기사에서 김 총장은 “우리는 지금까지 열심히 살아서 빈곤에서 벗어났지만 다음 스테이지를 고민해야 한다. 답은 바다”라고 밝혔다. 김 총장은 세계수산대학 유치의 의미와 관련, 수산분야 세계적인 리더 양성뿐만 아니라 해양수산 분야에서 부경대의 브랜드 가치 향상, 우리나라의 외교력 확대 등을 꼽았다. 김 총장은 “우리는 중국과 일본이라는 세계적인 해양 강국 틈바구니에 있다. 동남아 아프리카 남미 등 연안 국가들과 좋은 관계를 유지할 필요가 있다”고 밝혔다. 이어 그는 “이런 나라들이 어자원을 남획하거나 바다를 오염시키지 않고 적정한 어획도 하고 자원 관리를 하도록 기술을 전수해줘야 한다”고 세계수산대학의 필요성을 역설했다. 기사는 “세계수산대학은 지난해 9월부터 부경대에서 시범 운영되고 있다. 반응은 좋다고 한다. 양식기술, 수산자원관리, 수산사회과학 등 3개 학과에서 45명이 공부하고 있다.”고 소개했다. 김 총장은 기사에서 “해양수산 분야는 우리 대학이 대한민국의 대표다. 국제적으로 학자들끼리는 부경대가 한국 최고라고 인정한다.”라면서, “그래서 2007년부터 60개국 620여명의 해양수산 공무원 등이 우리 학교에 와서 공부했다”고 밝혔다. 김 총장은 “부경대는 해양수산 분야의 경쟁력을 바탕으로 바다생물자원 개척에도 공을 들이고 있다. 의료와 미용 등에 활용할 수 있는 해양생물자원은 무궁무진하다.”고 강조했다. 김 총장은 용당캠퍼스의 역할에 대해서도 소개했다. 그는 “(해양수산의) 또 다른 축은 공업 인력으로 중소기업이나 부품, 소재 소기업 등에서 핵심 역할을 하고 있다. 특히 용당캠퍼스는 지역 중소기업과의 협력 허브 역할을 한다”고 밝혔다. ▷ 기사 전문 읽기 “클릭!!” The interview with Pukyong National University president, Kim Young-seup was featured on the 21st page of the newspaper Kukmin Daily (September 17) as a top story.
