부경대학교가 수산계 대학 실습선 중 최대 규모인 3,990톤 급 새 실습선 건조에 본격 착수했다. 부경대 수산과학대학(학장 김형석)은 지난 9월 2일 대선조선 다대 조선소에서 백경(白鯨)호 건조공사 기공식을 열고 실습선 건조에 들어갔다. 부경대의 14번째 실습선인 백경호는 내년 12월 준공을 목표로 총예산 532억 원을 투입해 건조된다. 새 실습선의 이름인 백경은 부경대 실습선건조위원회 주관으로 학내 공모를 통해 결정됐다. 백경은 우리나라 원양어업을 처음 개척했던 부경대 네 번째 실습선의 이름이기도 하다. 당시 백경호는 1966년 수산청의 북태평양 원양어업 시험조사사업에 투입돼 3개월에 걸쳐 북태평양에서 시험조업을 실시하고 귀항, 북양어장 개척 가능성을 증명했다. 이후 북태평양 어장은 원양 트롤어업의 최대 어장으로 각광받게 됐다. 새로 건조하는 백경호는 총톤수 3990톤에 길이 97미터, 폭 15.4미터, 최대 속력은 16노트에 이른다. 승선 규모는 160명으로 수산계 대학 실습선 중 최대 규모다. 선박자동위치제어시스템(DPS)을 장착해 수평 이동, 위치 유지 등 첨단 기능도 갖췄다. 기존 실습선 가야호(1737톤)를 대체하는 백경호는 쾌적한 선내 환경을 위해 학생 선실 수를 가야호(18개)보다 많은 30개로 대폭 늘려 선실 배정 인원을 6명에서 4명으로 줄였고, 천정을 높이면서 침대 길이도 늘렸다. 부경대 학생들은 새 실습선이 준공되면 탐사선 나라호(1494톤)와 함께 두 척의 선박을 이용해 연근해와 원양 승선실습, 해양연구조사 활동을 펼치게 된다. 부경대 선박실습운영센터장 이종근 교수는 “학생들이 새 실습선인 백경호를 타고 오대양을 누비면서 63년 승선실습 역사에 이어 승선실습의 새로운 지평을 열어나갈 것으로 기대한다.”고 말했다. <부경투데이> Pukyong National University has begun to build a new 3,990 tons training ship, the largest among the fisheries universities. Baek-kyong is also the name of the fourth training ship of Pukyong National University, which first pioneered Korean ocean fishing. At that time, Baek-kyong was put into the North Pacific Ocean Fishery Research Project by the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries in 1966, and conducted a test operation in the North Pacific for three months and proved the possibility of returning to the port and the North Sea. Since then, the North Pacific fishing grounds have been spotlighted as the largest fishing grounds for ocean trawl fishery. The newly built ship, Baek-kyong has a total tonnage of 3,990 tons, 97 meters long, 15.4 meters wide and a maximum speed of 16 knots. The boarding size is 160 persons, which is the largest among the training ships of fisheries universities. Equipped with a ship automatic position control system (DPS), it has advanced functions such as horizontal movement and position maintenance. Baek-kyong, which replaces the existing training ship Gaya (1,737 tons), has drastically increased the number of student cabins to 30, more than Gaya (18), the cabin assignment was reduced from six to four, and the length of the bed increased as the ceiling was raised for a comfortable cabin environment. When the new training ship is completed, Pukyong students will use the new ship with ship Nara (1,494 tons) with two ships to engage in offshore, ocean, and sea research.
