Anote Tong, the President of the Republic of Kiribati was awarded the honorary doctorate degree by PKNU for his distinguished services and cooperation on the prevention of global warming and marine industry.
Anote Tong has actively participated in international movements for fighting global warming which inflicts the island states as well as his own country. Furthermore, he showed excellent leadership in the development of the marine industry between Korea and Kiribati. Tong paid a visit to the Expo in Yeo-su, Korea for the international seminar on the environment. Kiribati, located on the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Stimulated by that award granting, PKNU and Kiribati are planning to operate programs which encourage the community of nations to fight for global warming, whilst broadening exchanges among other countries. In the degree ceremony, Tong said, “I am very honored to receive a doctorate degree from PKNU whose curriculums are specialized in fisheries and oceans.” Furthermore, he stated, “I hope that painstaking challenges like global warming will be resolved through PKNU’s strong academic base. <PKNU today> |
