Find national competitiveness from the ocean as her father did These are some parts of the speech from president-elect Geun-hye Park when she was granted her politics honorary degree on the 21st November 2008; she was granted three honorary degrees from KAIST, Pukyong National University, and Sogang University. This speech shows the deep connection between PKNU and Park Geun-hye.
The former President Chung-hee Park visits Busan fisheries college... The former President Chung-hee Park felt the importance of deep-sea fisheries as he carried forward a five-year plan for economic growth, so he picked "Fisheries country" as the national agenda. The former president had visited Busan fisheries college and discussed solutions to get foreign currency. He invested around one thousandth(?) of the national budget and built the Back-kyong vessel(400 tons) for practicing deep-sea fisheries skills. He named the ship, and his wife attended the lunching(launching?) ceremony because it was one of Korea’s main projects at that time.
△ On the left, Chung-hee Park's hand-written naming certification is on the Back-kyong vessel during the lunching ceremony on the 22nd December 1964. On the right, the moment of the former president visiting the Busan fisheries college dean’s office. This was the beginning of the overseas fishing ground which offered food to poor people and earned foreign currency. This shows the fisheries industry's great power as 30% of dollars from outside of this country was from deep-sea fisheries and 36% of all exports were seafood. That was the start of the industrialization base, and now we could be one of the biggest countries in the IT industry field. Geun-hye Park, a member of the National Assembly, visits Pukyong University... Geun-hye Park, a member of the National Assembly, visited Pukyong University on the 24th February 2005. As her father, Chung-hee Park, had visited Busan fisheries college in his presidential term, she visited Pukyong University . Ms Park visited Pukyong maritime bio process research group
Pukyong National University had researched the ocean which led to the development of maritime technology for the country, and people over 70 years. As her father had, Ms Park started to have a deep connection with Pukyong University by taking a politics honorary doctor degree from the university, and her election as the 18th president of Korea is going to be the big stepping stone towards making Korea a strong maritime-fisheries country. On the 21st November 2008, she finished her speech in the honorary doctor degree commencement as follows: "Thank you for giving me this politics doctor degree, and I will do my best to ensure a clean political system so that you will not be disappointed. Thank you." |
