Pukyong National University became the first International Authorized Testing Agency in the LED field in the Yeongnam district. Pukyong National University’s LED-Marine R&BD Center (Chief Yu Young-moon) was selected as the first International Authorized Testing Agency in the LED field by KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) in the Yeongnam district. The system of recognition for the International Authorized Testing Agency was made to evaluate overall facilities such as equipment, facility conditions, and test capacity, and also to certify the facility. At this time, Pukyong’s LED-Marine R&BD Centre is certified with its technology ability level and quality management system:- 9 in electrical test field, 7 in optics and intensity of light measurement field, a total of 16 parts in the centre have been certified.
Therefore, test reports from this centre about lighting equipment’s energy efficiency, circumstance and reliability of electric test, light source, color, and chromaticity of optics and intensity of light measurement will take effect not only domestically but in about 80 countries belonging to the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and APLAC (Asia-Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation).
Previously, corporations in the Yeongnam districts needed to go to Seoul, Gyeonggi, or abroad to get the authorized test report, but, from now, they can just visit Pukyong National University’s LED-Marine R&BD Center to be offered a fast and standard compatibility testing service. It means that they can reduce costs and save time, as well as receiving support with high levels of technology such as failure analysis, so that they can improve their domestic and foreign competitiveness.
The Chief, Yu Young-moon, said that the centre will expand the boundary of the international authorized test and take a big part in developing marine shipbuilding, an offshore plant, and LED-Marine fusion industries by training high quality professionals.
Meanwhile, Pukyong National University’s LED-Marine R&BD Center, which opened in 2010, is trying to develop the LED industry by creating converging technology which will be the first of its kind in this country. This development is primarily between LED, known as the green growth industry, and the ocean industry which is the main industry of the southeast area in lighting apparatus for ships, artificial breeding, marine bio technology, harbor physical distribution, marine culture and tourism, and maritime city lights.<Pukyong Today>
