PKNU, selected as project partner to nurture government's disaster management talent The project is a business to foster professional manpower by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety with universities to support master's and doctoral degree programs to nurture national talents who will lead disaster safety in Korea. Pukyong National University, Gunsan University, Sejong University, Andong University, and UNIST have been selected for the earthquake disaster prevention field, and Kangwon University, Sungkyunkwan University, Soongsil University, UNIST, and Chungbuk University have been selected for the disaster management field, these 10 universities nationwide have been selected for this project. Universities selected for the project, including Pukyong national university, will receive a total of 400 million won in government subsidies for two years to develop subjects and education programs related to disaster safety, to expand research equipment, and to provide scholarships. Pukyong National University, centered on the Department of Earth Environmental Sciences, set out to foster graduate students with specialized capabilities in the field of earthquake disaster by utilizing infrastructure such as earthquake-related teaching staffs and equipment. The personnel trained through this project will advance into disaster research and development, facility safety, corporate disaster consulting, and seismic design, and contribute to disaster management and earthquake disaster prevention in Korea as key personnel in related fields. Meanwhile, by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been operating this project since 2014, and it plans to select educational institutions centering on departments related to disaster safety and schools operated by graduate schools, and continue to develop projects to cultivate disaster safety experts in response to changing disaster environments such as sudden extreme weather and emerging infectious diseases. <Pukyong Today> |
