"We won’t forget your sacrifice that saved the peace 70 years ago." Fifteen members of the UN Supporters of the Pukyong National University Student Peace Corps (Choi Si-eun, the representative) delivered a thank-you letter and a video to the Belgian Embassy in Seoul at the ’70th Anniversary Ceremony of the Belgium-Luxembourg Battalion Visiting Korea’ held at the Westin Chosun Hotel Busan on the morning of 27, January. The ’70th Anniversary Ceremony of the Belgium-Luxembourg Battalion Visiting Korea’ was organized by the Belgian Embassy in Seoul to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the participation of Belgium and Luxembourg in the Korean War. The event was attended by Woo Gyeong-ha, the Busan Metropolitan City International Relations Ambassador, Kim Juyong, Project Promotion Planning Director for the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War of Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA), Mr. Patrick Englebert, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Belgium in the Republic of Korea, and Heo Kang-il, Management Director of the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea (UNMCK). Belgium and Luxembourg participated in the battle as support South Korea during the Korean War and dispatched 3,498 (lost 106) and 100 (lost 2) soldiers to our country. The UN Supporters of Pukyong National University, which have been carrying out memorial activities for veterans of the Korean War since 2009, showed their gratitude to the overseas veterans by screening a self-made thank-you video and reading the thank you letter at the event. Choi Si-eun (3rd grader, Dept. of History), a representative of UN Supporters, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the war veterans who risked their lives and fought for a faraway country on the other side of the globe. When I think about whether I could have risked my life for another country, I get solemn. I will not forget courage and sacrifice of the veterans." <Pukyong Today> |
