국립부경대, 우즈베키스탄 해외봉사활동 ‘국제 협력 강화’
- 9일간 교육·환경개선 등 활동 … 한류 확산 민간 외교관 활약

국립부경대학교(총장 배상훈)는 PKNU 학생봉사단(이하 “봉사단”)이 우즈베키스탄에서 봉사활동을 성공적으로 마무리했다고 밝혔다.
학생 42명과 교직원 5명 등 총 47명으로 구성된 봉사단은 지난 2월 3일부터 11일까지 7박 9일간 우즈베키스탄 타슈켄트와 사마르칸트 일원에서 봉사활동을 펼쳤다. 이번 활동은 봉사단에서 지속적으로 추진 중인 UN-SDGs(유엔 지속가능발전목표) 달성과 ESG(환경·사회·책임경영) 실천의 일환으로 진행됐다.
이들은 고려인 요양시설인 아리랑요양원에서 한국 전통음식 만들기, 말벗 봉사와 함께 노후 벽면 벽화 그리기, 수목에 석회 방부처리 등 환경 개선 활동을 펼쳤다.
타슈켄트 기묘국제대학교와 사마르칸트 국립외국어대학교에서는 고급 한국어교육 클래스와 함께 UN-SDGs 정신을 공유하는 기획 프로그램을 열고 K-Pop 등 한국문화·한류(韓流) 확산을 통한 민간 외교관의 역할도 수행했다.
이와 함께 사마르칸트 제1번공립학교(우리나라의 초·중등학교에 해당)에서는 1~9학년 학생을 대상으로 K-Food 체험을 위한 김밥 만들기를 비롯해 초급 한국어교육, 보건·위생교육, 태권도 격파 시범, 함께하는 작은 운동회 등을 열었다.
봉사활동에 참가한 김승민 대표 학생(경제학부 4학년)은 “이번 경험으로 더 큰 세상을 경험하게 됐다. 우즈베키스탄에 대한민국의 작은 울림이 있었다고 생각하고, 앞으로도 양국이 협력하고 상호 발전할 수 있는 국제적 동반자 관계가 지속되기를 희망한다.”라고 소감을 밝혔다.
우즈베키스탄 현지에서는 고려인 강제이주의 아픔을 달래주는 봉사단 학생들의 선행과 한국문화 공유를 통한 현지 학생들과의 교감에 깊은 감사를 표했고, 특히 현지 언론사(KUN.tv 등)에서는 이들의 각 대학 활동에 열띤 취재 경쟁을 보이며 우즈베키스탄 내 한국어와 한국문화의 인기가 한층 무르익는 계기가 됐다는 호평을 전하기도 했다.
국립부경대 관계자는 “이번 봉사활동이 봉사정신 함양, 세계시민의식 확립 등 학생들의 전인적 성장에 크게 기여했을 것.”이라며, “각 학교 등과의 봉사활동 및 학생 친교 등을 지속적으로 추진할 계획이다.”라고 밝혔다. <부경투데이>

Pukyong National University Strengthens International Cooperation with Uzbekistan Volunteer Work
-9-day activities in education and environmental improvement… Korean Wave expansion as private diplomats
Pukyong National University (President Bae Sang-hoon) announced that the PKNU Student Volunteer Group successfully completed their volunteer activities in Uzbekistan.
The volunteer group, composed of 42 students and 5 faculty members, totaling 47 people, conducted their volunteer work in Tashkent and Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from February 3 to 11, for a total of 9 days. This activity was part of the group’s ongoing efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) and practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.
The group carried out a range of activities at the Arirang Nursing Home for ethnic Koreans, including preparing traditional Korean food, providing companionship to the elderly, painting murals on aging walls, and applying lime treatment to trees as part of environmental improvement efforts.
At Tashkent Kimyo International University and Samarkand State University of Foreign Languages, the PKNU student volunteer group organized advanced Korean language classes and a program to share the spirit of UN-SDGs. They also performed the role of civilian diplomats by promoting Korean culture and the Korean Wave (Hallyu), including K-Pop.
In addition, at Samarkand No. 1 Public School (equivalent to elementary and middle schools in Korea), the volunteer group held various activities for students in grades 1 to 9. These included making Kimbap for a K-Food experience, beginner-level Korean language education, health and hygiene education, Taekwondo breaking demonstration, and a small sports day.
Kim Seung-min, a representative student from the Department of Economics (4th year), who participated in the volunteer work, shared, “This experience allowed me to experience a bigger world. I believe there was a small ripple of Korea in Uzbekistan, and I hope the two countries can continue to collaborate and develop as international partners.”
In Uzbekistan, the volunteer students’ acts of kindness, which alleviated the pain of the forced migration of the Korean ethnic minority, and their sharing of Korean culture were deeply appreciated by the local community. Especially, local media outlets (such as KUN.tv) competed eagerly to cover their activities, and it was praised as a catalyst for the growing popularity of the Korean language and culture in Uzbekistan.
A representative from Pukyong National University stated, “This volunteer activity significantly contributed to the students’ holistic growth, including fostering a spirit of service and establishing a global citizenship mindset.
