베트남 학생들이 부경대에 유학 와서 박사 학위를 딴 뒤 고국으로 돌아가 베트남 명문 국립대인 호찌민대학 교수가 된 사람이 모두 11명이라는 말. KBS는 이어 “베트남에서는 최첨단 인기학문인 기계공학을 부경대에서 배운 푹 교수는 현재 베트남 최고 교수 가운데 한 명”이라면서, 이런 사연 때문에 “베트남 학생들, 그 중에서 공대생들의 최고 꿈은 부산에 유학하는 것”이라고 밝혔다. 이 뉴스는 KBS 강지아 기자가 부산 기업들의 글로벌화를 취재하기 위해 베트남 현지를 방문 취재한 기획물 가운데 두 번째 보도였다. ‘전방위적인 친부산화’라는 제목이었는데, "호찌민대 교수 11명이 부경대 출신"이라는 대목이 이 뉴스의 뼈대였다.
베트남이 외국인 교수에게 정부 교육훈장을 수여하면서 자국의 국립대 종신 명예교수로 위촉한 사례는 김 교수가 처음이었다 한다. 그만큼 정부 차원의 비상한 관심을 쏟고 있는 베트남측의 의중을 읽을 수 있는 대목이다. 김 교수가 베트남에 공학교육을 본격 전수하게 된 것은 지난 1996년부터 부경대에 유학 온 베트남 학생들이 인연이 됐다. 그의 지도로 박사학위를 받은 11명의 제자가 베트남으로 귀국해 호찌민대 교수가 되면서 그의 연구역량이 주목받게 됐던 것. 현재 호찌민대 공과대학은 김 교수를 통해 공학 교육과정, 공학 컨퍼런스 개최 등 공학교육의 모든 분야의 자문을 받으며 부경대 공과대학을 롤 모델로 삼고 있다. 이런 가운데 지금도 부경대 캠퍼스에는 학부과정 1명, 석사과정 13명, 박사과정 11명, 연구과정 1명 등 총 26명의 베트남 유학생들이 제2, 제3의 푹 교수가 되기 위해 밤을 지새우고 있다.<부경투데이> It was reported at KBS Busan on July 5th at 9 P.M. that there were 11 professors in University of Technology who are alumni of PKNU. In other words, after Vietnam students had studied in PKNU to take a doctorate, they became University of Technology professor. KBS reported that a professor Puk is one of the most competent professors. He learned mechanical engineering in PKNU which is one of the most popular learning in Vietnam. Therefore, many Vietnam students, especially all the department of technology students, want to learn the courses of their major in depth by coming to Busan in Korea for study. It was the second time that reporter Kang Ji Ah for the KBS visited Vietnam to feature the globalization of the companies in Busan. The title of this news was ‘Pro-Busan for omnidirectional diplomacy’, and “11 professors among University of Technology professors are alumni of PKNU” was the main contents in this article. Actually, because Kim Sang Bong who is a professor of department of mechanical and automotive engineering came out the second page of this article, he was not on the news. Vietnam government awarded a medal for education him last January, and he was appointed to a lifetime honorary professor in University of Technology because he contributed to the advancement of the engineering education for Vietnam technology students by instructing the engineering education of PKNU. It was the first time that Vietnam government awarded a medal a foreign professor, and he was even appointed to a lifetime honorary professor in the national university. This article showed that Vietnam government has an extreme interest in its education. He decided to start instructing how to teach engineering education students after meeting Vietnam students studying in PKNU in 1996. He had many Vietnam disciples at that time, and 11 students among them became University of Technology professors. After that, he was recognized as the best in his teaching ability. The officials of the college of engineering in University of Technology have consulted him about all of the field of engineering including the process of the engineering education and the related conference. Also, they regard the college of engineering in PKNU as a role model. Because of the mentioned reasons, there are 26 Vietnam students studying in PKNU including 1 student learning his undergraduate studies, 13 students studying for a master’s degree, 11 students in the doctoral course, and 1 student studying to be a researcher to be the second and the third professor Puk.
