세계 평화를 수호하고 6․25 참전용사들의 희생정신을 기리는 부경대학교 학생 평화봉사단 ’부경UN서포터즈 6기’가 출범했다.
‘부경UN서포터즈’ 6기(대표 손인호‧해양수산경영학과 3학년) 45명은 7월 23일 오후 3시 부경대 동원장보고관 3층 리더십홀에서 발대식을 갖고 본격적인 활동에 들어갔다.
‘부경UN서포터즈’는 세계 유일의 UN평화문화특구인 부산 남구 지역에서 UN기념공원에 잠든 11개국 2,300여명의 UN군 전몰용사 넋을 돌보는 등 평화봉사활동을 펼치는 봉사단이다. 6․25전쟁에 참전해 세계평화를 지킨 참전용사들에게 은혜를 갚고 평화를 의미를 널리 알리자는 것.
‘부경UN서포터즈’ 6기 학생들은 이날 발대식을 시작으로 UN기념공원 추모 행사를 지원하는 것을 비롯, UN ESCAP 동북아사무소, UN 한국협회 등 국내 UN기구 견학, UN 등 국제기구 전문가 초청 특강, 보훈병원 봉사활동 등을 펼칠 계획이다.
특히 6.25전쟁 참전국도 방문해 참전용사들을 직접 만나 감사의 마음을 전달하는 등 봉사활동을 펼친다.
김영섭 총장은 “6․25전쟁 당시 여러분과 같이 젊은 나이의 청춘들이 평화를 지키기 위해 전쟁에 참전했다.”면서, “낯선 곳에서 낯선 사람들을 위해 고귀한 생명을 바친 그들의 희생을 기억하며 세계 평화에 기여하는 대학생이 되기 바란다.”고 말했다.
한편 지난 2009년 출범한 부경UN서포터즈는 터키, 필리핀 등 참전국을 방문해 참전용사들에게 고마움을 전한 것을 비롯해 김해보훈요양병원 방문 봉사활동, 추모행사 지원과 6․25전사자 유해발굴작업에도 참가하는 등 평화수호를 위한 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다.<부경투데이>

‘Pukyong UN Supporters’ - a student peace corps of Pukyong National University - aiming to protect world peace and honor the spirit of sacrifice of 6.25 war veterans was launched.
The starting ceremony of 6th ‘Pukyong UN Supporters’ (total 45 students and headed by Son In Ho, Junior in the department of Marine & Fisheries Business and Economics) was held at the leadership hall on the 3rd floor of Dongwon Jang Bogo Hall of PKNU at 3:00 on July 23rd and started full scale activities.
The ‘Pukyong UN Supporters’ is a peace corps to carry on peace-related volunteering missions such as admiring soul of 2,300 dead heroes from 11 countries resting in peace in UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea especially in Nam-gu area, UN peace culture special zone. They are doing their missions with the aim to return favor of war veterans who struggled to protect world peace during Korean War and publicize meaning of ‘peace’ widely.
Following the starting ceremony, the students are planning to support the memorial event of UN Memorial Cemetery, visit domestic UN organizations such as Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and UN Korea Association, hold a special lecture by experts on international organizations, and volunteer at Veteran Hospital.
Especially, they are planning to visit combatant nations of Korean War to see the war veterans face to face and convey our gratitude.
“The youth just like you fought in the war to guard peace, and I hope you will be such great university students to remember their sacrifice to devote their noble lives for unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar place and contribute to world peace” Kim Young Seup, president of PKNU said.
‘Pukyong UN supporters’, launched in 2009, has carried on various activities for peace protection from visiting combatant nations (Turkey and Philippines) to convey our gratitude to the war veterans to voluntary service at KImhae Veteran Hospital, supporting memorial events and participating in exhuming war dead of Korean War.<Pukyong today>
