장학재단을 세워 대학을 지원해 온 아버지의 뜻을 잇기 위해 딸이 같은 대학에 장학금을 기부해 눈길을 모은다.
지 씨는 “해양수산 분야 발전과 인재를 기르기 위해 평생을 바친 아버지의 뜻이 계속 이어지길 바라는 마음으로 장학금을 기부하게 됐다.”고 밝혔다. 지 씨의 아버지는 지난 1984년 부경대의 전신인 부산수산대를 지원하는 장학재단 월해학술진흥회를 설립하고 1억 원을 기부한 고(故) 지철근 씨다. 지철근 씨는 이승만 대통령 시절 상공부 수산국장을 지내며 우리나라 수자원 보호를 위해 1952년 동해의 ‘평화선’ 제정을 주도하고, 1965년에는 한일어업협정을 총괄하는 등 공직에서 우리나라 수산해양 분야 발전의 기틀을 마련한 인물이다. 지 씨는 “아버지께서는 우리나라 수산해양 분야의 미래를 위해 우수한 인재를 기르는 것이 중요하다고 생각하셨다. 그래서 젊은이들이 오대양육대주를 누비며 꿈을 키울 수 있도록 장학재단을 세워 수산해양 특성화 대학인 부산수산대를 지원하신 것.”이라고 말했다. 월해학술진흥회는 설립 이후 해마다 우수한 학생들에게 장학금을 지원해 왔다. 지 씨는 최근 저금리로 인해 기존 장학기금의 은행이자 수익이 줄어 장학금 규모가 축소되자 사재를 털어 장학금 5천만 원을 기부했다. 이번 기부로 월해학술진흥회는 추가로 5년간 해마다 10명의 부경대생에게 100만원씩의 장학금을 줄 수 있게 됐다. 지 씨는 불어 번역계를 이끈 1세대로 인정받는 번역가다. 동덕여대 불문과 교수와 한국번역연구원 초대원장을 지낸 그는 『레제오르지끄』 등 문학번역서와 『번역의 7단계 이론』 등 저서를 냈다. 최근에는 한국 문학을 세계에 알리기 위해 작품 번역에 힘쓰고 있다. 지 씨는 “번역 분야에서 활동하다 보니 세상은 넓고 할 일은 많다는 것을 실감한다. 부경대 학생들이 세계에서 활약하는 멋진 청춘들로 성장하는 데 이번 기부가 조금이나마 보탬이 되면 좋겠다.”며 웃었다. <부경투데이> In order to keep up with the father's willingness to support the university by establishing a scholarship foundation, his daughter donated scholarships and it attracted public attention. Ms. Ji's father is the late Mr. Ji Cheol-geun who donated 100 million won to establish the scholarship foundation Wolhae Academic Association, which supports Busan National Fisheries University, the former of Pukyong National University in 1984. Mr. Ji Cheol-geun served as Director of Fisheries of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) at the time of President Lee Seung-man, leading the enactment of a Presidential decree 'Peace line' of the East Sea in 1952 to protect Korea's water resources, and the Korea-Japan Fisheries Agreement in 1965. He is the man who laid the groundwork for the development of Korea's fisheries and marine field in public office. Ms. Ji said, “My Father thought it was important to cultivate talented people for the future of Korea's fisheries and marine industry. That's why he established a scholarship foundation to support Busan Fisheries University, a specialty university for fisheries and oceans, so that young people can grow their dreams through five great oceans and six continents." Since its establishment, the Wolhae Academic Association has provided scholarships to outstanding students every year. As the low interest rates recently reduced the bank's interest income and reduced the size of the scholarship fund, she donated a scholarship of 50 million won by her own expense. Thanks to this donation, the Wolhae Academic Association could provide 10 million won for scholarships to 10 Pukyong students every year for an additional five years. Ms.Ji is a recognized translator who led the French translation industry. She was a professor at Dongdeok Women's University and the first president of the Korea Research Institute for Translation and she has written literary translations such as 『(Les)georgiques』 and 『The theory of 7 steps in translation』. Recently, she has been working on translating works to make Korean literature known to the world. “As I am active in the field of translation, I feel the world is wide and there are many things to do.
