부경대학교(총장 김영섭)는 5월 15일 오후 미래관 2층 소민홀에서 부경UN서포터즈 제12기 발대식을 개최했다. 이날 12기 봉사단원 21명이 임명장을 받고 본격적인 활동에 들어갔다. 부경UN서포터즈는 6‧25전쟁 참전용사들의 은혜를 갚기 위해 뛰는 학생 평화봉사단이다. 지난 2009년 1기가 발대한 이후 올해로 12년째를 맞았다. 이들의 주 임무는 대학 인근에 위치한 세계 유일의 유엔묘지인 UN기념공원(부산 대연동)에 잠든 11개국 2300여명의 UN군 전몰용사의 넋을 돌보는 것이다. 이들은 UN기념공원을 방문해 헌화, 참배하는 것을 비롯, 이곳을 방문하는 해외 참전용사와 유가족들을 안내하고 방문 기념행사를 연다. 해마다 UN기념공원에서 열리는 UN전몰용사 추모제, UN세계평화의 날 기념행사, 턴투워드 부산 등 행사도 지원한다. 겨울 방학에는 해외에 생존해 있는 참전용사들을 직접 찾아 보은행사를 열고 감사편지와 선물을 전달하는 것도 이들의 임무다. 지금까지 캐나다, 미국, 영국, 네덜란드, 호주 등에 살고 있는 참전용사, 유가족 등 150여 명을 직접 만나 감사의 마음을 전했다. 이날 발대식을 가진 12기 봉사단원들은 첫 활동으로 부경대 인근 유엔기념공원을 방문해 헌화하고 참배 행사를 가졌다. 한편 지난해 부경UN서포터즈 단원으로 활약한 제11기 학생 16명은 이날 수료증을 받았다. <부경투데이> Pukyong National University (President Kim Young-seup) held the 12th launching ceremony of the Pukyong UN Supporters at Somin Hall on the 2nd floor of the Mirae Building on the afternoon of 15th, May. On this day, 21 volunteers from the 12th unit received a letter of appointment and finally went into their volunteer activities. Pukyong UN Supporters is a student peace volunteer corps working to repay the sacrifice of Korean War veterans. It has been the 12th year this year since the first launch in 2009. Their main task is to pay respect and mourn for the souls of more than 2,300 UN fallen heroes from 11 countries who have fallen asleep in the UN Memorial Park (Daeyeon-dong, Busan), the world's only UN cemetery which is located nearby Pukyong National University. They guide overseas veterans and families who visit the country and holds a memorial event including visiting the UN Memorial Park to lay wreaths and worship. They also support events such memorial ceremony for UN fallen heroes held at the UN Memorial Park, celebrations for UN World Peace Day, and the event 'Turn to world, Busan'. In the winter vacation, it is their duty to visit veterans who have survived abroad, hold events for repaying sacrifice of war veterans and deliver thank-you letters and gifts. So far, they have met more than 150 people, including veterans and surviving families living in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia, and expressed their gratitude. On this day, the 12th volunteer unit who attended the starting ceremony visited the UN Memorial Park near Pukyong National University for their first activities and had time to pay respects for the heroes.
